How to See Who Someone Recently Followed on Instagram (2026)
October 2026•4 min read•By Similarity API Team
- Paste their public username into the free Instagram Following Tracker.
- Create a free account. We save a snapshot of who they follow right now.
- From the next day, every update lists who they newly followed and who they unfollowed.
Instagram removed the Following activity tab years ago, and a following list isn't sorted by date. So you can't open someone's profile and see who they followed this week. What still works is saving their following list and comparing it again later. The tracker does that for you every week.
See who they follow and unfollow
Any public account up to 10,000 followers. Free, anonymous, no password.
Start tracking freeStep by step
- Enter their handle. Their profile card appears, so you can confirm it's the right account and that it's public.
- Sign up free with Google or email. We take the first snapshot of their following and followers straight away.
- Check back after 24 hours. The first update lists everyone they followed or unfollowed since the snapshot. After that, it checks weekly.
- Use the tabs. New following and Unfollowed show who they followed and unfollowed. New followers and Lost followers show who started or stopped following them. Every change has its date, and you can export any list to CSV.
Why not use a "following tracker" app?
Most apps that promise someone's recent follows want your Instagram login, and Reddit is full of stories about locked or restricted accounts. Here's what people complain about, and what the tracker does instead:
| What people complain about | The 2026 way |
|---|---|
| "The app asked for my password, then I got locked out or warned." | Never asks for your password. You only enter their public username. |
| "It was free, then I had to pay to see the list." | Free weekly checks for public accounts up to 10,000 followers. No blurred results. |
| "It stopped refreshing" or "the numbers were wrong." | Exact accounts, not counts. An unfollow and a new follow in the same week both show up. If Instagram returns an incomplete list, we retry in about an hour instead of showing wrong results. |
| "Ads everywhere and a trial that turned into a charge." | No app, no ads, no trial. Nothing to install; checks run on our side. |
| "Will they know?" | Anonymous. Nobody gets notified. |
| "I have to remember to check." | Automatic. We check every week and email you when results are ready. |
Good to know
- Only public accounts can be tracked, up to 10,000 followers and following on the free plan.
- History starts from your first snapshot. Follows from before then can't be dated.
- A free account tracks one handle at a time. Switching to another handle starts a fresh history.
- The tracker only shows what anyone can already see on a public profile, over time. Please use it respectfully.
